Components can be added to a library automatically by importing them from an online library. Free online CAD libraries with symbols, footprints and 3D models are available.

Import from Ultra Librarian

To search for a component do the following:

  1. In the library document, click on the folder where you want to add the new items.

  2. Click on the tool Import from Librarian in the toolbar. A dialog box opens where you can specify the name of the component to be searched for.

  3. Enter the component name in the Name box and click on the Ultra Librarian button. The browser opens and the search result is shown.

  4. Click on any of the components that have CAD models to open the download page.

  5. Click on the Download Now button. The list of available CAD formats appears.

  6. Click on the Altium group and select the PCAD V15 format. Alternatively, EAGLE or KiCad format can be selected.

  7. Click on the 3D CAD Model group and select the STEP format.

  8. Click on the Download Now button or Login to Download.

  9. When the download is complete, the Import Library dialog box opens in Drawlogix, showing the import parameters. Click Ok to import the components.

Import from SamacSys

To search for a component do the following:

  1. In the library document, click on the folder where you want to add the new items.

  2. Click on the tool Import from Librarian in the toolbar. A dialog box opens where you can specify the name of the component to be searched for.

  3. Enter the component name in the Name box and click on the SamacSys button. The browser opens and the search result is shown.

  4. Click on any of the components that have CAD models to open the download page.

  5. Click on the Download ECAD Model button.

  6. When the download is complete, the Import Library dialog box opens in Drawlogix, showing the import parameters. Click Ok to import the components.

Import from SnapEDA

To search for a component do the following:

  1. In the library document, click on the folder where you want to add the new items.

  2. Click on the tool Import from Librarian in the toolbar. A dialog box opens where you can specify the name of the component to be searched for.

  3. Enter the component name in the Name box and click on the SnapEDA button. The browser opens and the search result is shown.

  4. Click on any of the components that have CAD models to open the download page.

  5. First, on the 3D Model tab, click on the Download 3D model button.

  6. Next, on the 2D Model tab, click on the Download Symbol and Footprint button. The list of available CAD formats appears.

  7. Click on the P-CAD format. Alternatively, EAGLE or KiCad format can be selected.

  8. When the download is complete, the Import Library dialog box opens in Drawlogix, showing the import parameters. Click Ok to import the components.

Make changes to the symbol

If the symbol doesn't have the pins arranged the way you want, you can edit it. Select the pin and drag it to the correct position. To rotate the pin, select it and press the R key.

Check the correct positioning of the 3D model

After importing the component, the positioning of the 3D model should be checked.

  1. Open the footprint document.

  2. Double-click on the frame to open the properties window.

  3. Select the 3D Model tab.

  4. You can translate, rotate, and resize the 3D model to position it exactly on the footprint.
