In order to move objects, you must first select them. Transformations can be applied simultaneously to any selection, consisting of a single object, multiple objects or a group of objects.

To move objects using the mouse

An object can be moved directly with the mouse without having to use the menu commands. You can interactively move the selection on the screen by dragging the mouse.

Perform the following operations:

  1. Select the objects to be moved.

  2. Move the mouse pointer over the object. The pointer turns into a cross.

  3. Press the main mouse button and drag the selection to the desired position.

  4. Release the mouse button once the object is correctly positioned.

SuggerimentoTip:

If the grid snap is active you will get a jerky shift according to the value set for the snap. To temporarily disable the grid snap, press the F8 key.

Constraining the position of objects

When moving an object using the mouse, you can constrain the horizontal or vertical movement from the starting point using the TAB key. Pressing the key a first time binds the vertical movement. Pressing it a second time binds the horizontal shift. A third press again frees up the horizontal and vertical movement.

To move objects by specifying parameters

Use this mode when you need to have precise control over the placement of a single object or group of objects.

To move an object to a specified distance

Perform the following operations:

  1. Select the objects to be moved.

  2. Choose the command Operations » Move or click on the tool in the toolbar. The Move dialog box opens.

  3. Enter the distance. Positive values move the object upwards to the right, while negative values move it downwards to the left.

  4. Click OK to close the dialog box.

To move an object to a specific location

Perform the following operations:

  1. Select the objects to be moved.

  2. Choose the command Operations » Move or click on the tool in the toolbar. The Move dialog box opens.

  3. Select the Absolute coordinates box. The Position box becomes active. The buttons in the box allow you to specify the point of the object to be placed on the selected coordinates. For example, if you want to center the object on the coordinates, click the middle button. If you select the Hotspot box, the object is positioned so that its hotspot is positioned at the point corresponding to the specified coordinates.

  4. Click on one of the check boxes in the Position box.

  5. Enter the coordinates of the point where you want to place the object.

  6. Click OK to close the dialog box.
