In order to rotate objects, you must first select them. Transformations can be applied simultaneously to any selection that consists of a single object, multiple objects, or a group of objects. You can rotate an object by specifying precise values or by interactively modifying the object.

NotaNote:

When you rotate objects that have a fill, the object is transformed but the size and orientation of the pattern remain unchanged.

An object can only be rotated if it has the status flag The object can be rotated set.

To rotate objects using the mouse

An object can be rotated directly with the mouse without having to use menu commands. You can interactively rotate the selection on the screen by dragging the mouse.

Perform the following operations:

  1. Select the objects to be rotated. When you initially select an object, the selection rectangle for resizing appears, consists of eight squares placed in the vertices and in the middle points of the sides of the rectangle that contains all the selected objects. To rotate an object using the mouse, you must first activate the rotation mode by clicking a second time on the body of an object already selected. The small square at the top left corner and those at the centre of each side of the selection rectangle are flanked by a double arrow.

  2. Move the mouse pointer over the double arrow in the upper left corner of the selection rectangle. The pointer takes the form of a double arrow.

  3. Press the main mouse button and drag the hook. The selection rotates around the transformation center to reflect the dragging of the mouse. The value of the angle of rotation is shown in the status line.

  4. Release the mouse button when the object has reached the desired angle.
